About Student Loan Clear
Federal student loan rules are spread across a law, a regulation, StudentAid.gov, Department of Education announcements and servicer notices. This site puts them in one place, in plain English, with the math worked out.
Who runs it
Student Loan Clear is run by the Student Loan Clear team. It is independent and not connected to any government agency, loan servicer or lender.
How pages are made
Pages are drafted with the help of AI tools and checked line by line against the official sources each page lists: federal law (including Public Law 119-21 and the U.S. Code), federal regulations (34 CFR, 31 CFR), the Federal Register, IRS publications, StudentAid.gov, Department of Education press releases and HHS poverty guidelines. News articles and blogs are used only as leads, never as sources. Each page shows the date its rules were last checked. We have no outside expert reviewer, and we don’t claim one.
What we don’t do
- We don’t tell you which plan to choose.
- We don’t collect or store what you type into the calculator. It runs in your browser.
- We don’t sell placements in our results or guides.
How it’s paid for
The site may show advertising and sponsorships. Advertisers have no say over what the guides or calculator say, and any sponsored content will be labeled as such.
